Two weeks later and I’m feeling a little like myself this weekend. I have a lot of quality family time and cooking to thank for this. All week I worked half days trying to heal and take it slow….longing for the weekend when I could be with JD and Garner and be at home and rest and be together and cook….

Saturday: Shelby Farms and the Farmer’s Market…with a pitstop for some strawberry picking. It was warm, but with a slight breeze and showers off and on that made it enjoyable.

4 lbs strawberries
1 lb baby summer squash
1 big bunch of fresh basil

A trip to the market and I was set.

Washed, hulled and chopped. Ready for mango, lime juice, lime zest, and some avacado.



Garner watched on….anticipating a bite.

Meanwhile… a perfect chocolate cake was baking in the oven. More strawberries were chopped, sugared and chilled to be paired with the perfectly perfect chocolate cake. These would be enjoyed by our sweet friends Jim & Wren later in the evening poolside – thank you!

Sunday didn’t disappoint. Garner and I made fresh pesto while the chicken marinated in olive oil, lemon juice, zest, salt and pepper. Thankfully, there’s enough pesto for another meal. Being with my family, cooking with them, resting with them, going to the Farmer’s Market with them and finding delicious in-season produce is all good for my soul. Thank you God for good food, for friends and for family.
